Nicaragua recently approved the amendment to the Montreal Protocol that was carried out in 2016. With this step, Nicaragua reinforces its position of union in the fight against global warming.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Montreal Protocol is an international environmental agreement aimed at protecting the earth’s ozone layer by limiting and eventually eliminating ozone-depleting substances (ODS).<\/span><\/p>\n

In this amendment, the party countries undertake to reduce the production and consumption of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), which are commonly found in refrigeration equipment, thermal conditioning and some aerosols.\u00a0The obligations are aimed at the commitment to acquire more efficient technologies that depend less on this type of product.<\/span><\/p>\n

With this ratification, Nicaragua becomes applicable to access financial mechanisms aimed at supporting developing countries to implement the protocol.\u00a0It will also be able to be flexible in prioritizing the use of HFCs.\u00a0and define the strategy for implementation.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Montreal Protocol is an effort and a document promoted and supervised by the Secretary General of the United Nations.<\/span><\/p>\n
